PS2-CD Hoppers

American Z Line is excited to announce an all new freight car body style: the 4,750 CuFt. Pullman Standard PS2-CD 3-bay covered hoppers.
The PS2-CD covered hoppers first were produced starting in the early 1970s and they can be easily identified by the 3 bays and the 18 exterior ribs. Over 54,000 were produced. The PS2 4750 cu ft 3-Bay covered hopper has a weight of 100 tons. The cars were generally equipped with elongated 'trough' hatches and Barber S-2 100 ton trucks. Grain hauling was the most common use for these cars, although many of these cars were modified with round hatches for specialty chemical service and other commodities.These cars were purchases by many major roads as well as smaller and independent operators. They are still extensively used today with many sporting their original circa 1970s livery.

AZL's PS2-cd covered hoppers will feature AZL's roller bearing trucks with our new profile blackened metal wheels and all new AutoLatchTM couplers. The cars will also feature intricate etched metal walk ways and extensive details.

Details Make the Difference

 With our new PS2 Hoppers, we have really hit our stride in fright car production. These well weighted cars roll exceptionally well on our new profile metal wheels, and the details are crazy. Check out the separately added air reservoirs behind the ladders and the handles on our etched metal roof walks. We have switched to vacuum molded packaging to protect the details on these cars, like the delicate hopper gates. Speaking of which, all of our PS2 models have micro printing on the hopper gates themselves. We really went all out on the paint details – some models have over 20 paint masks and pad printing plates! Most manufactures make do with one or two detail colors, be we frequently use five or more. Where prototypical we have even added printing behind the ladders. You’ve got to see these cars to believe them!
